Archaeology event in September 2019: Heritage Open Day events in Stoke-on-Trent

For this year's Heritage Open Day join us on Saturday 21st September 2019 from 10:30am - 3:30pm at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Bethesda Street, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST1 3DW

Join members of Connect Archaeology throughout the day to learn about how archaeologists uncover the archaeology beneath our feet and what we have been finding during our work on HS2.

We are hosting three events throughout the day:

  • Join our finds experts at 10.30am to learn about some of the artefacts we have found during our work on HS2 and what they tell us about the people who lived in the area thousands of years ago. You’ll be able to learn more about the archaeological process and handle finds from excavations at Streethay, Staffordshire, where we found a Roman settlement.
  • At 12pm take part in our geophysical survey: learn about the techniques we use to look below the ground, use the equipment and become a geophysicist for an afternoon.
  • Why not end the day at 3pm by letting your children join our excavation team for a mock-up excavation. They will have an opportunity to dig up objects, get dirty and enjoy themselves.
  • This is a drop-in activity and does not require booking.

If you'd like to find out more about Heritage Open Day events happening in your area, you can visit the dedicated website .

If you'd like to talk to us about our works you can call our freephone helpdesk on 08081 434 434 .
